Ron Symmes

Strategic Advisor

Ron has been an Ecliptic strategic advisor since 2007.

For over 10 years, Ron has been actively consulting to the space industry as President of Symmetrics, Inc., providing management and technical services to aerospace and telecommunications industry executives.  These services include strategic planning, new business development and acquisition, business partnerships, product and technology improvement, litigation strategy and support, project staffing and recruiting, and "red team" review.  Clients include aerospace companies, spacecraft manufactures and operators, law firms, insurance companies, and venture capital investors.  Ron has also served as a Board member and strategic advisor for several space-technology firms.

He is also an active founding Board member of Legacy Engineering, a high-end technical services company, and personally recruited over 100 high-level technical employees and established significant new business contracts for the firm.  Through his relationship with Legacy, Ron has preferred access to over 650 senior technical and business experts who are available to clients.

In 2008, Ron was Project Manager for the commercial lunar lander mission the Spirit of Southern California, an official Google Lunar X-PRIZE entry from the Southern California Selene Group team.

For 26 years, Ron enjoyed an extensive technical and management career at Hughes Space & Communications, where he retired as VP of Operations with 3,400 reports and a $1.1B annual budget.  Before this role, he was Business Unit Leader for Systems Engineering, Analysis and Operations and several precursor units and divisions, and before that was Program Manager for several commercial GEO satellite programs.  For over 10 years before entering the Hughes management ranks, Ron held technical leadership positions such as mission manager, systems engineer, test conductor and spacecraft manager on several GEO comsat projects.

He was awarded the AIAA Space Systems Award in 1997 for "Leadership in the design, development, and orbit operation for the Hughes HS-601 communications satellite product line".
